Since 1991, the Nova Youth Orchestra has provided a vehicle for talented young musicians from across Sydney to experience the wealth of original music written for string orchestra. The NYO is not attached to any school and survives as a private community orchestra.
The Orchestra rehearses on Saturday afternoons during school terms. It holds an Annual Concert, a Christmas concert, and performs throughout the year for retirement villages, churches, music clubs and community organisations. The result is that the Orchestra proudly shares its music with a very broad range of audiences, playing works varying from classical to contemporary.
The Nova Youth Orchestra has developed a reputation for a high quality and unique string sound, and has undertaken international tours, performing to critical acclaim in Asia and New Zealand.
Each year, a weekend camp is held where players have the opportunity to be extended by working under the direction of leading guest musicians.
